1600 Wrong Calories.

As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I have been logging meals since a few years now. I logged meals which clocked up to 1600 calories a day, hoping that I would soon lose weight, as I thought I was sticking to a low calorie consumption.

But I was wrong due to two reasons :

1. If one wants to lose weight, 1600 calories is a lot, especially if the person is inactive.

2. All calories are NOT the same. So even though I ate 1600 calories a day, most of them came from sugar and simple carbs. If I had eaten 1600 calories of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, I wouldn’t have gained so much weight.

  • How we gain weight :

The body uses sugar and simple carbs for energy, and if we are inactive, the body stores the extra energy as fat, so that it can be used in the future. But we end up eating unhealthy food every day, so our body never has the chance to access the stored fat for energy. This leads to the fat piling up, slowly and steadily, till you wake up one day and find yourself 10 pounds heavier than you thought you were.

Weight loss is all about calories-in being less than calories-out. That is why crash dieting and excessive exercise works in reducing weight quickly, but that doesn’t make them healthy at all.

  • Make lifestyle changes :

I started intermittent fasting 7 months ago and I’ve never looked back. I could have done it for a few months and then stopped, but then what’s the point? I’d have gained weight again, and all my efforts would have gone in vain. Whenever you are embarking on a weight loss journey, make sure that you form habits that you will stick to in the long run. Make lifestyle changes, and your body will thank you.

  • My weight loss journey :

By understanding the basics of nutrition, I was able to lose 40+ pounds in the last 8 months. Thanks to intermittent fasting, I have been able to indulge my cravings and still maintain a healthy weight. It is definitely wise to eat healthy as it is good for the heart and protects the body from a host of diseases, but it’s okay to have a cheat meal every now and then. In the end it’s all about balance.

Stay healthy!
