Haters Gonna Hate.

How to free yourself from random hatred :

A few years ago, I was at Church confessing to a Priest how hurt I was that a particular girl hated me when I did nothing wrong to her. She was openly cynical each time I spoke to her and her negative energy made me cry often, as I am very sensitive.

Crying bitterly while narrating the incident to the Priest, I wanted to know the reason for her hatred and how I could free myself from the pain.

What he told me was so enlightening. He said, “In this world, no matter how good you try to be, there will always be people who will despise you. I have experienced the same at this very Church. Look at Jesus Christ, who was crucified by the same people whom He helped, healed and prayed over. All you can do is be a good person, help others as much as you can, forgive those who hate you and bless those who curse you, then alone will you be free. Free and happy.”

After he shared this with me, I felt a huge burden being lifted off my shoulders. I never bothered about that girl again, and I felt completely at peace.

People-pleaser? Not anymore :

I’ve been a people-pleaser all my life and I’ve been trying hard not to fall into that trap again and again, but I often do so without realising.

Since last month, I’ve been writing sarcastic posts about random stuff other people wouldn’t bother thinking twice about (check out The Taunting Tempest category).

There was a lot of drama and hatred following some of the posts, some people wrote angry posts, some angry comments.

I felt sorry for them, and wrote two posts explaining my sarcasm, and clarifying that I didn’t mean to hurt anyone.

By posting those explanations, it was so evident that I had fallen into the people-pleasing trap, but I only realised it yesterday i.e. two weeks after uploading the second post.

As soon as I realised my stupidity, I deleted those posts. Why? Because I no longer find it necessary to explain myself or comfort people who need not be comforted.

What I don’t understand is that if people find what I write insensitive, then they can simply unfollow my blog and MOVE ON. Nobody is holding them at gunpoint with the WordPress app open to my blog, for crying out loud!

Why I’m bold :

I finally got an answer for people who told me that I was too bold to post on those topics –

‘Whenever I speak my mind or stand up for myself, I prefer being BOLD, because when I’m ITALIC I end up falling back down again.’

Got it? Italic, falling down. Smart, right?

Thank you for the slow claps and face palms (which sound like claps, so I’ll count them too). *wink*

This whole episode reminded me of the following quote :

Moral of the post :

1) Stop seeking approval from others, it’s not worth the mental agony. Just be yourself, and don’t bother about what people think.

2) Haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate, just shake it off, shake it off.

P. S. I hope you hummed along to the song while counting the number of times I wrote the word ‘hate’ in that sentence. If not, you can do it now. Hahaha. *wink*

Thank you for reading! Stay blessed!

  1. Yes people pleasing needs to be monitored, I have that curse, but I have learned to drip feed it rather than let it gush. Work is the worse place because the more you do the more they will give you to do 😂 Great post Ellen and good luck 👍 (I haven’t copied this comment from another site, at least I’m not aware 😘 loved the other posts)

  2. You made me think of a Taylor Swift song. I hate you now! 😂😂
Seriously though. You are right with your stance on things. People aren’t always going to like what you write. So be it. That’s not your problem.
Just keep being you. As you said they can always unfollow.
    Best wishes to you Ellen.
